Notable Scientists Paper – Guidelines

Notable Scientists in History 

The purpose of this independent study project is to research one notable scientist in history. Choose from the list provided in class.

The research paper will scored using the criteria on the attached rubric.

Paper must include:

1. Introduction paragraph: Introduce the reader to your scientist.

Include the main points you’re planning to cover in the Body.

2. Body: A brief biography of your scientist.

A summary of his or her important contributions to scientific   knowledge.                                

A discussion of the historic era during which he or she lived.

Interesting or pertinent facts related to your scientist’s contribution.

The relationship of technology to your scientist and his/her research.

3. Conclusion paragraph: How did your scientist’s contributions influence

our world? What have you learned?  

Research Paper Guidelines: 20 points possible

Title Page

1 ½ – 2 pages, typed, double spaced, 1 inch margins, 10 – 12 font

References properly cited

Attach printed copies of internet research articles or photocopies of pages used in printed                                                         reference (book or article).

Use at least 3 references. You may use Wikpedia but you should compare that information carefully with your other sources. References are to be attached to your draft.

  Presentation Guidelines: 10 points possible

The purpose of the presentation is to share what you’ve learned with your classmates.

You may choose from the following projects: poster, power point presentation, oral report, dramatic presentation, or wherever your imagination takes you.  

 Keep in mind: Although your research paper is due at the end of this unit, your poster or presentation will be due at some later point in the school year. I’ll give you at least 2 weeks notice
